Kappa Sigma and Chi Omega hosted Thursday’s DipSync , a competition featuring ten on-campus groups lip-syncing and dancing for their peers.
The tickets were sold for five dollars and all proceeds went to Make-A-Wish Foundation. The foundation grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
With the purchase of a ticket, students were able to enter a raffle with prizes including a $20 gift card to Thomas’ Campus Deli and $10 gift cards to Giant food store.
David Stameshkin, prefect of Bonchek College House, and Samantha Freedman ’11 were the MCs for the night and entertained the large crowd between performances.
There were four judges to determine the winner: Kate Snider, prefect of Schnader College House; Lauren Brenner ’11, president of Chi Omega; Mary Kate Boland, director of Greek Life; and Zachary Foster ’11, president of Kappa Sigma.
The first performance was from the F&M dance team. They danced to the song “Telephone” by Lady Gaga.
Before the next act, Stameshkin said, “There used to be an event at F&M called Rock-a-Like… I wanted to have something like that again and now we do!”
For the second performance, DipCon danced around to “Twist and Shout.” Then, the F&M Dance Company danced to Busta Rhymes.
Stameshkin then gave the audience a surprise. After being the advisor for Kappa Sigma for many years, the brothers were able to induct him into the fraternity.
“It’s a tremendous honor,” Stameshkin said. “I’m now Jewish and Greek!”
Kappa Sigma then lip-synced to “Oh What a Night.” The crowd laughed loudly at the Kappa Sigma brother wearing a green full body suit that even covered his face. The only other clothing he wore was a shirt bearing the Kappa Sigma letters.
Following his new fellow brothers, Stameshkin sang his own little ditty to amuse the audience. The F&M tour guides then performed their rendition of “I Love College” by Asher Roth. The next act was Kappa Delta, lip-syncing “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain.
Stameshkin amused the crowd once more with another original song before Sweet Ophelia lip-synced to “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. Stameshkin’s next original song talked about John Fry’s leaving and Chi Omega followed with a lip-syncing act to a mix of songs.
Alpha Phi performed next with a copy of a “Halo” and “Walking on Sunshine” mash-up from the television show Glee. Before the last act, Stameshkin sang his last song about the lack of housing.
I.M.P.A.C.T. performed last with a mix of “Dancing Machine” and “I Want You Back,” both by the Jackson 5.
While the judges deliberated, all of the raffle prizes were handed out.
After a short time, Snider announced they had decided unanimously upon I.M.P.A.C.T. as the winner.
This fun-filled evening is hopefully the first of many for DipSync for years to come.
