Diplomatic Congress has its new executive board for the 2010-2011 school year.

Diplomatic Congress has its new executive board for the 2010-2011 school year.

Sitting president Hormuz Masani ’10 announced the results of this year’s election Saturday. Students elected Stephen Lockey ’11 as president over candidates Bobby Pokora ’11 and Lilah Thompson ’11.

“I hope to lead the Diplomatic Congress in a collective effort to improve House and School Spirit over the next year,” Lockey said. “My goal is to have improved student attendance at athletic, House, and Common Hour events not because students feel obligated, but because they feel a sense of pride in the F&M community.”

Lockey stressed the importance of collaboration between the members of the new executive board.

Weston Fillman ’11 was elected vice president over Bryan Dougan ’11 and Annie Weinberg ’12.

“My main goal for DipCon is to uphold its value as an advocacy body for students; keep it a place where they can bring their concerns and we can be a mediating body between students and the administration,” Fillman said.

Elena Lopez ’12 defeated Michael Stahl ’11 for the position of treasurer.

Elana Jaret ’12 ran unopposed for the position of secretary.

Jaret hopes to implement a more effective late-night shuttle service as well as increased collaboration among student groups.

“I intend on using the momentum we have gained [this past year] to help with next year’s success,” Jaret said. “All four of us have had experience being on DipCon in one capacity or another, so we will hit the ground running.”

Lockey previously served two terms as Brooks House President. Fillman served as Diplomatic Congress Secretary for the 2008-2009 school year. Lopez served for two years on the Schnader House Assembly of Peers, this past year as treasurer. Jaret served as Diplomatic Congress Secretary this past semester.

“I couldn’t be more excited to work with three of F&M’s most capable in tackling these goals,” Lockey said.

Elections for Class Presidents of Diplomatic Congress will take place Thursday in the Steinman College Center.
