The Options Are Limited

As a first-year, there is always some magic that comes with coming to college.

As a first-year, there is always some magic that comes with coming to college.

Everything is new and it is all interesting and fun. Each day there is somewhere new to explore and new people to meet. Some of the most important places on campus for students of all years are the eateries. Initially for the new students, D-Hall, Pandinis, Jazzman's, and the LSP creperie are a sufficient amount of places on campus to eat. The upperclassmen, however, are much more easily disenchanted by such places. Granted, each of the places mentioned offer a variety of options, but it still doesn’t seem enough.

Most other schools not only have a coffee shop and main dining hall but several other places, as well. Another lunch place would be a much welcome change to campus. The creperie in LSP was a nice addition. However, when there are two people manning the area and a line full of students, who has the time to stop? Although it never got raving reviews, Quizno’s was another sandwich place on campus. It was open late hours and was convenient. The only place open later in the evenings was Pandinis.

As each new class comes in, there are more and more students accepted. As is, eateries on campus are often packed. With the new influx of students, the eating establishments have become impossible to get out of within a reasonable time period during major meal times. The people working in these establishments do the best they can with the equipment and supplies they are given, but they are usually bombarded.

Another place to eat on campus would allow for less traffic in the current restaurants and more of a selection for students. It would be another place for students to grab a bite and work on an assignment.

I understand that the more places open, the more upkeep and cleaning needs to be done, as well as more workers being hired. However, compared to the other major additions to our campus another place to eat would not be that big of an expense. In fact, students would probably respond positively to such a change and spend their meals, flex, and Ben’s Bucks there.

A place to eat on a campus of college students can never really go wrong. Students need to eat and will have to pay to do so no matter what. Why not give us a little more of an option?

After a month or so the magic wears off. I can only imagine what it would be like years later to have the same old options day in and day out. This issue cannot be solved immediately, but our school is undergoing renovations of all kinds. It would be nice to know that something like this might eventually be considered.
